Counselling in Bristol for individuals and couples, both long term and short term.

Counselling is a journey of self-discovery. There are insights into relationships, self-acceptance, self-esteem, self-confidence separation, loss, self-care, self-love and happiness.

Who goes to counselling?

People from all walks of life come to counselling, often unsure what this journey of self-discovery will mean. We may reach a turning point when we acknowledge that we need help. Perhaps this feels like a relief or maybe a sense of failure.

Sarah, Michael, Tim and Jennifer say a little about why they came to counselling.

‘I'm just no good at close relationships. I always end up getting hurt and rejected. I never get what I really need. I suppose the bottom line is if I let someone get close to me I'm more vulnerable. It seems safer to hide parts of myself to keep myself from getting hurt. It doesn't work I still get hurt. If feels hopeless.’
Sarah

‘I've always thought that if I performed well and seen by others to be highly successful this would give me happiness. I don't know anymore... Who am I fooling, others or myself? Deep down I feel empty and alone, at times inside I panic. I'm plagued by self-doubt, lack of self esteem and feelings of worthlessness.’
Michael

‘I feel so alone and isolated. Disconnected from the world and myself. It seems like I am always on the outside looking in. Yet I aviod closeness. My secret fear is that something is wrong with me. When things feel really bad I think about ending it, then I feel really scared and alone.’
Tim

‘I feel that I have been searching for that 'special someone' to feel my emptiness. It's like a desperate longing, apart of me seems to be slowly dying. Yet when I get into relationships I become all loving and giving and then end up disappointed and feel abandoned.’
Jennifer

Counselling is an opportunity to understand ourselves better. We may ask, why me? We often forget the answers to our unhappiness can be found within ourselves. From understanding come new opportunities to learn and practice new skills, make new choices and the ability to create more of what we want in our lives.
